i have downloaded vista's ISO image and burned it to a DVD ROM but i cannot boot from the CD when i turn my computer on, could someone tell me how i can boot from the CD please?
i ned to boot from the DVD as i want to do a complete format and install vista on a clean drive.
i notice that if you install vista on a clen install normally, all it does is formats the drive and installs, i want to be able to delete the partition, create a new 1 and then install vista on the new poartition,
if any1 can help that would be great!!
thanks

Booting from the ISO on DVD
You need to enter the BIOS and change the boot device to DVD drive- 1st boot device. -- Jim

You have to use your DVD's disk image function. You won't end up with an ISO on the DVD; you'll have lots of other files.

When you burn the disc using a third party program there should be an option that says "burn disc from image" or something very similar. It is usually found in advanced options or advanced projects of your dvd burning program. You can use dvd + or - R whichever your hardware supports. Do not use RW. -- Jim

This is a recurring problem. It is usually one of three four things.
1) The original download file was corrupted and needs to be downloaded again.
2) The poster burned the ISO file to the DVD as a data file rather than burning the ISO as an image.
3) the poster needs to reduce the speed at which the DVD is burned. Try 2x.
4) the poster needs to go into the BIOS and set the boot order.

will iso buster be ok to extract the files to a folder, then i can burn the files in that folder to the CD?

No. ISO images are files that contain an exact image of a CD or DVD. Check iso buster to see if there is an option to "Burn image file" or similar. Also, search Google.

When you're able to burn and boot successfully, early in the installation, you're asked what partition you want to install in. Select Advanced Options. There you can delete existing partition(s) and create new ones. This will perform a clean install. Worked great for me...Tim.

You can do a clean installation to a new partition of Vista x86 from the XP x86 desktop. Use the "format" button on the Stage 1 screen.

Not if you are seeing the "Press any key to boot from dvd..." message. It is more likely that you need to burn the dvd at a slower speed.

You need to "burn image to disc" or whatever that function is called by your burner software. Do not do any extraction, etc.

Since he is seeing the "Press any key to boot from dvd..." message his boot order is OK. Microsoft is saying that they are aware of these issues with the .iso files and that the likeliest solution is your #3. This came up in an MVP chat today and the moderator requested us MVP's to pass it along. Continue to urge burning at a slower speed and make it your #1.

I'm seeing the same thing. My DVD worked perfectly when launched from XP (which was what I wanted to do) to install Vista on another partition. However, I tested it, and it won't boot. It behaves exactly as OP's did. My boot order is correct; other bootable CDs and DVDs will boot the computer. I don't think there was a speed issue with the burn because the DVD installed Vista perfectly and without hesitation. But it's not bootable.
